Pakistan invites private sector to invest in joint corridor project with China
  • The country’s information minister tells a group of journalists in Lahore the project will benefit both local and foreign investors
  • Chaudhry Fawad Hussain says there is complete transparency surrounding the economic corridor project

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s information minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has told a group of journalists in Lahore the government was inviting the private sector to invest in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), said the External Publicity Wing (EP Wing) of the information ministry in a Twitter post on Wednesday.
The multibillion-dollar corridor project, which was launched in 2013 and provides a framework for greater regional integration, has mainly focused on infrastructure development and power generation ventures across Pakistan.
It is part of China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) that aims to link Asia, Africa and Europe via land and maritime networks to ensure sustained economic progress by increasing commerce and trade.
“Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said that the private sector was also being invited to come forward and make investments in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects,” the EP Wing tweeted.

According to the China Economic Net, the minister also maintained that CPEC was going to benefit both local and foreign investors.
He added there was complete transparency surrounding CPEC projects.
The joint China-Pakistan corridor project has been frequently described as a “game changer” by Pakistani officials who hope it will change the economic geography of the region.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said in September his government was going to expedite work on CPEC while acknowledging it had either been halted or slowed down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
