Top Pakistani generals, Saudi naval chief discuss Afghanistan, regional peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa met visiting Saudi Naval Forces Commander, General Fahad Bin Abdullah Al Ghofaily, on Tuesday and discussed the crisis in Afghanistan and its effects on security and peace in the region.
The Saudi naval chief arrived in the Pakistani port city of Karachi on Monday for the ongoing Pak-Saudi joint naval exercise Naseem Al-Bahr 13. 
Pakistani and Saudi forces started the exercise in Karachi on Sunday.
“During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and cooperation in military and maritime domains were discussed,” the Pakistan army said about the Saudi naval chief’s meeting with General Bajwa. “COAS reiterated that both countries share great history of cordial relations and deep rooted spirit of brotherhood, which has transformed into an enduring partnership.”
“The current situation in Afghanistan and its bearing on regional peace and stability also came under discussion.”
The Pakistan army said the visiting dignitary “appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, specially the assistance in successful evacuation operations and pledged to continue working with Pakistan for regional peace.”
The Saudi naval chief also called on General Nadeem Raza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and met Pakistan navy chief admiral Amjad Khan Niazi and discussed issues related to ‘regional maritime security.’
