DUBAI: The UAE’s ongoing vaccination and testing campaign is reaping the benefits as daily coronavirus cases continue to decline, with health officials on Wednesday confirming 608 new infections, while two people died. It is the lowest since Sept. 7, 2020 when the daily cases stood at 470.
The Gulf state’s COVID-19 caseload now stands at 730,743 with 2,068 fatalities related to the highly contagious disease.
The government’s inoculation program, coupled with an active testing policy for the early detection and intervention for coronavirus cases, has provided at least a dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 90.8 percent of the UAE population.
Meanwhile, 79.63 percent of residents and citizens in the country have been fully vaccinated and have received booster shots, particularly those who were earlier jabbed with the Sinopharm vaccine.
A total 19,073,549 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far, equivalent to a vaccine distribution rate of 192.85 doses per 100 people.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention’s policy on vaccination and testing hinges on efforts to quickly achieve community immunity for the national economy to reopen albeit at a new normal.
