This new photo exhibition explores what it means to be Khaleeji

“Khaleejiness” is a new photography exhibition that kicks off at Abu Dhabi’s Manarat Al-Saadiyat on Tuesday and is based on “Encapsulated Volume 1: Photo-Essays on Khaleejiness,” a book that explores Khaleeji identity. The participating photographers selected personal works that reflect their experience of hailing from, or living in, the GCC.

 

  • Khaldoun Khelaifi

    The photographer and visual artist from Saudi Arabia is deeply influenced by Jeddah’s culture and traditions.

     

  • Khaled Esguerra

    Based in Abu Dhabi, a large portion of the Palestinian-Filipino visual artist’s work revolves around themes of culture, identity and modernity, influenced by his mixed background.

     

  • Marwa Ali

    Architecture, portraiture and street photography are the main focus that make up the young Egyptian photographer’s work.

     

  • Ishaq Madan

    The self-taught Bahraini photographer has a strong desire to bridge the gap between Bahrain and the world through visual stories.

     

  • Lama Al-Jalal

    Born and raised in Kuwait, the photographer and artist is known for her sepia-tinged portraiture shot on analog depicting her close friends.

     

  • Buthaina Al-Zaman

    The photographer and graphic designer is currently working on archiving Qatar’s old doors as a way to preserve the old neighborhoods in the Gulf country that are slowly being demolished.
