Who’s Who: Dina Madani, UNHCR external relations officer in Riyadh

Dina Madani has been the external relations officer for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Riyadh since May 2020.

Madani’s broad range of responsibilities include resource mobilization and managing donor relations with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and the Saudi Fund for Development, as well as coordinating activities and programs with external partners.

She is committed to raising awareness in the wider public about the work of UNHCR and is keen to create new partnerships with academic institutions and nongovernmental organizations in the Kingdom through networking and capacity building.

She is also the co-founder of CellA+ Network, founded in May 2011 as the first platform for professional females in the country aiming to improve opportunities for women in Saudi Arabia.

Between March 2010 and June 2017, Madani served as the acting deputy permanent representative at the permanent mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the UN in Geneva, and as a political officer at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah.

Between June 2011 and January 2016, Madani was a member of the Global Shapers at the World Economic Forum. During the 2013 session of the World Economic Forum at Davos, Madani was invited to participate as the youngest panelist in the Arab Context session.

Madani earned a graduate diploma in diplomacy and international relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in 2008 and a certificate of executive presence from Cornell University.

She also has a master’s degree in international relations and affairs from Dar Al-Hekma University in Jeddah and a bachelor’s degree in management information system from the same university.
