6 brands by Emirati woman designers to know and support

In honor of Emirati Women’s Day on Aug. 28, we present six homegrown labels led by inspiring women designers from the UAE.

  • YNM Dubai

The womenswear designer founded the contemporary, ready-to-wear label in 2014. She has since collaborated with major brands such as Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin.

  • Twisted Roots

Founded by UAE-born Latifa Al-Gurg, the womenswear label has been in the headlines after winning the competition to design the uniforms for more than 30,000 staff and volunteers at Expo 2020 Dubai.

  • Madiyah Al-Sharqi

The daughter of Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi, the ruler of Fujairah, Madiyah Al-Sharqi launched her eponymous label in 2012. Her outfits have been worn by US-Colombian actress Sofia Vergara and American model Paris Jackson.

  • Qasimi

In addition to heading the London-based menswear brand, Sheikha Hoor Al-Qasimi is also the president and director of the Sharjah Art Foundation.

  • Illi

Designer Rawdha Thani's abaya line, which translates to ‘my daughter’ in Berber, is known for its beautiful contemporary and ethereal designs.

  • Fatema Fardan

A year after launching her own label, Fatema Fardan became the first Emirati to present her designs during New York Fashion Week in 2015.
