Who’s Who: Abdulaziz Al-Duhaim, Saudi Arabia’s assistant minister of commerce

Abdulaziz Al-Duhaim was recently appointed Saudi Arabia’s assistant minister of commerce.

He has worked for more than 10 years in the public and private sectors. Prior to his current role, Al-Duhaim was the deputy minister for policies and regulations at Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Commerce from June 2021.

He was the assistant deputy minister for laws and regulations between March 2017 and June 2021, and head of the Companies Law Violations Committee between August 2016 and June 2021. He joined the ministry as a legal adviser in 2013.

He is a board member of the Saudi Lawyers Association, and serves on the permanent committee of the Saudi Arbitration Center, as well as being a member of the Small and Medium Enterprises Funding Guarantee Program. In addition, he is on the advisory board of Al-Yamamah University’s college of law.

He led the Financial Disputes and Violations Committee between August 2017 and October 2020 at Kafalah, the government-backed loan guarantee program for small and medium businesses.

Al-Duhaim has worked for law firms in Riyadh and Dubai, including Hadef and Partners between 2010 and 2011, and Abdulaziz Al-Gasim Law Firm in association with Allen and Overy LLP between 2011 and 2012.

He has completed several training courses, including the Advanced Legislation Program at the London School of Economics, the Seattle Business Legislation Development Program in collaboration with the US Department of Commerce, and the English Law Program at the University of Cambridge.

Al-Duhaim completed a bachelor’s degree in Islamic law at Imam Mohammed ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, and a master’s degree in commercial law at Hull University in Britain.
