RIYADH: The monitoring teams at Saudi Arabia’s Public Transport Authority (PTA) carried out over 84,480 field inspections in July to ensure compliance with the rules regulating land transport activities in various parts of the Kingdom.
Nearly 12,000 violations were detected, mainly in goods transportation, taxi services, specialized transport and car rental activities.
The most prominent violations observed involved the operation of vehicles, taxis and buses to transport passengers without the necessary permit, which is issued by the authority after ensuring a vehicle’s safety and the validity of its insurance.
Operating a vehicle for a period exceeding its approved operational life was the second most common violation, followed by non-compliance with requirements such as installing front, rear or side protection barriers for trucks or placing the necessary phrases, plates or signs inside the vehicle.
By monitoring violations, the PTA aims to improve the quality of services provided; ensure the compliance of licensed facilities with regulations; limit inaccurate and random practices in the provision of services; and guarantee the safety of beneficiaries and workers in transport activities.
