Cinema Akil has announced its summer program – and you don’t want to miss it

Dubai’s arthouse cinema, Cinema Akil, has just announced its "Summer Throwback" program, and you don’t want to miss it. Running until Sept. 25, the program is a treat for cinephiles and will screen classics from the 1960s to the 1990s. 

  • "Run Lola Run" (1998)

    This German thriller, directed by Tom Tykwer, follows a woman called Lola who needs to obtain 100,000 Deutschmarks in 20 minutes to save her partner’s life.

  • "Touki Bouki" (1973)

    Directed by Senagalese filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambety, this drama about a couple who long to leave Dakar for France was selected as the 93rd greatest film of all time by the Sight and Sound Critic’s Poll.

  • "Psycho" (1960)

    A secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer’s client in this Alfred Hitchcock-directed psychological thriller.

  • "Scarface" (1983)

    Starring Al Pacino, this iconic film tells the story of a penniless Cuban immigrant who becomes a powerful drug lord.

  • "Clueless" (1995)

    This coming-of-age film about a spoiled teenage girl called Cher remains one of the most beloved teen movies ever made.

  • "Back to the Future" (1985)

    Directed by Robert Zemeckis, this sci-fi film follows Marty McFly, a teenager accidentally sent back to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean automobile.
