- Dubai to see massive growth in hotels and nature reserves
DUBAI: Dubai has launched its “2040 Urban Master Plan” as it aims to be the world’s best city to live in, the Dubai Media Office said.
Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum officially launched the plan on Sunday, which aims to dramatically increase economic and recreational activities in the emirate by 2040.
One of the key outcomes included in the document was to increase the total resident population to 5.8 million by 2040. The current population stands at 3.38 million, according to government data.
The plan, which was announced on Twitter, has a heavy emphasis on the hotel sector and anticipates that beach space in the emirate will grow by some 400 percent. At the same time, vast nature reserves will also become a feature of the emirate.
Some 168 square kilometers will be dedicated to industrial and economic activities under the plan.
Designated areas for educational and health facilities will be increased by 25 percent, while space for hospitality and tourism activities is planned to rise by 134 percent.
The plan also outlined improvements in public services such as mass transportation, as well as in accessing government services through an integrated center.
Other key outcomes of Dubai 2040:
- Development of two additional main urban centers
- 105 percent increase in green and recreational areas
- 400 percent increase in space designated for public beaches
