DUBAI: The spokesperson for the Saudi embassy in Washington has called on American companies to invest in Saudi Arabia.
He made the remarks during a webinar with the Colorado Springs World Affairs Council on Wednesday, the Colorado Politics journal reported.
“We want American companies to come to Saudi Arabia to build offices, to build factories, to invest in our country and invest in our youth,” said Fahad Nazer.
The Colorado Springs World Affairs Council is a not-for-profit, non-partisan, educational organization that covers global affairs.
Nazer highlighted historically strong ties between the US and Saudi Arabia which he said had been a feature of both Republican and Democratic administrations.
He added that Saudi soldiers had fought “side by side” with Americans in defending Kuwait from Iraq in 1990, and again in 2014 against Daesh in Syria and Iraq.
Nazer also touched on recent reforms in the Kingdom, including women’s rights, which he said has expanded in every other sector.
“Today Saudi women inhabit all professions and public services,” he said.
Nazer also discussed Saudi Arabia’s new tourism plans. The Kingdom started to issue tourist visas for the first-time last year, he said, citing the country’s historical sites such as AlUla and vast landscapes.
“With Vision 2030, we are opening up to the world,” he said.
