RIYADH: The Arab coalition said it intercepted a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia toward southern Saudi Arabia, state TV Al-Ekhbariya reported on Tuesday.
Coalition forces managed to intercept and destroy the drone that was targeting the city of Khamis Mushait, spokesman Col. Turki Al-Maliki said.
The attack is the latest in a wave of attempted strikes against southern Saudi Arabia using explosive drones in recent weeks. The Ras Tanura Port and an Aramco residential area in Dhahran were also targeted with a drone and missile in the east of the Kingdom on Sunday.
The attempted attack on Tuesday was the Houthi’s latest “horrific violation of international humanitarian law,” the coalition said.
The coalition said it was “dealing with the violations.”
On Sunday, the coalition carried out airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.
The UAE strongly condemned and denounced the Iran-backed militia’s attempts to target civilians in Khamis Mushait.
“The continuation of these terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia reflects its flagrant defiance of the international community and its disregard for all international laws and norms,” the UAE’s foreign ministry said.
Meanwhile, France strongly condemned missile and drone attacks that targeted Saudi cities on Sunday, saying they were a dangerous escalation.
“The Houthis must immediately put an end to their destabilizing regional activities and their attacks on Marib in Yemen, which are in direct conflict with any process aimed at ending the crisis in Yemen,” the statement said.

The Spanish government also condemned the repeated attacks on the Kingdom and said they endanger the lives of civilians, violate the sovereignty of Saudi Arabia, and threaten regional security.
Greece said it “unequivocally condemns the new missile attack that targeted the major petroleum port of Ras Tanura, endangering facilities as well as civilians.”
