- The viral video shows the female instructor performing her routine as military vehicles approach the parliament building in the background
- The Indonesian workout song that provided soundtrack to the coup roughly translates as ‘Have Mercy, Master’
ISLAMABAD: A woman doing aerobics in Myanmar’s capital on Monday accidentally captured the initial moments of the country’s latest military coup as she filmed her exercise routine on a wide thoroughfare leading to the parliament complex and recorded movement of military vehicles in the backdrop.
The video went viral on social media and took Twitter by storm where Indonesian netizens immediately recognized the catchy tune of the workout song which became the soundtrack of the military takeover.
The woman in the video, Khing Hnin Wai, appeared oblivious to what was happening in the background and blithely continued with her exercise while standing on an elevated platform in an open public space.
Some Twitter users believed that the woman had created a fake backdrop on a green screen. Several clips on her Facebook page, however, confirmed that she frequently performed her aerobic exercises at the same spot in the past.
Most Internet users in Indonesia were amused by the title of the song, “Ampun Bang Jago,” which roughly translates as “Have Mercy, Master.”
Social media users joked about the musical track, as many of them pointed out it was an oddly apt response to the military might in the Southeast Asian region.
