DUBAI: Bahrain’s foreign ministry invited its Qatari counterparts to visit the kingdom as soon as possible to start bilateral discussions on outstanding issues, Bahrain News Agency reported on Monday.
“I am pleased to invite your esteemed ministry to send an official delegation to Bahrain as soon as possible, to start bilateral discussions on issues and topics that have been suspended between the two countries,” the invitation addressed to Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani read.
The discussion would also include means of implementing the provisions of the AlUla agreement, which was signed by Gulf leaders, along with Egypt, at the GCC Summit in Saudi Arabia last week.
Following the meeting, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said the three-year dispute with Qatar had ended and that diplomatic ties between the Kingdom, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt with Qatar were returning to normal. The countries announced they were also opening their land, sea and air borders and flights resumed as of Monday.
The Bahraini side said implementing the AlUla agreement was necessary “to reach the lofty goals that we aspire to achieve for the good of the citizens of both countries, and to strengthen the march of joint Gulf action.”
Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al-Zayani said Manama has formed two committees; a follow-up committee and a legal committee, to steer the discussions, as stipulated in the Al-Ula declaration.
