The winter season is ideal for cozying up with a hot snack and these popular Arab treats will do the trick. 

  • Chestnuts

    Not only are these nuts easy to roast in the oven, they are also a good source of antioxidants.

  • Grilled corn 

    Grilled corn will keep you warm this season. You can enjoy making it during a family barbecue or simply in the oven. You can add butter and your favorite spices for some flavor. 

  • Wheat porridge

    This sweet dish, known as belila in Egypt, is made of pearl wheat, milk and sugar. You can also top it off with your favorite nuts.

  • Sweet potato

    The root vegetable might take time to cook, however, it is definitely worth it. It is rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber and perfect with a pat of butter.  

  • Umm Ali

    The widely-popular bread pudding, topped with dried fruits and nuts, is made with hot milk or heavy cream and is a winter favorite.

  • Halabessa

    The spicy hummus drink, also known as hummus el-sham, is a popular Egyptian street food. It is cooked with tomato broth, lemon and a range of other spices.
