Saudi ministry seizes 120 tons of local firewood

RIYADH: The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has confiscated 120 tons of local firewood in areas including Riyadh, Hail, the Eastern Province and Al-Baha.
The confiscation is part of the ministry’s campaign to prohibit and combat logging and preserve the environment, and is also part of its joint efforts with the Special Forces for Environmental Security (SFES) and the Special Forces for Roads Security in Riyadh.
In cooperation with the Special Forces for Roads Security in Riyadh and the SFES, the ministry’s office in Riyadh arrested violators at checkpoints and carried out inspection campaigns in firewood markets.
It found 49 vehicles loaded with local firewood: Two 18-wheelers, 16 Dyna trucks and 31 small pickup trucks. More than 87 tons of firewood were seized and fines were imposed.
In cooperation with the governorate’s police and municipality, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Al-Baha confiscated local firewood and coal in various locations, including markets and public storage places. Measures were taken against violators.
