Lorde opens up about retreat from social media

DUBAI: New Zealand singer Lorde has opened up about her retreat from social media in a conversation with Cazzie David published in Interview magazine, saying she was “losing her free will.”

The Grammy award-winning artist has been mostly absent from social media since 2018.

“Part of what made me peace out on social media, apart from feeling like I was losing my free will, was the massive amounts of stress I was feeling about our planet, about systemic racism, and about police brutality in this country,” Lorde said.

“I don’t know how you, someone I would describe as being reasonably neurotic, cope with that,” she said to David, the writer and star of web series “Eighty-Sixed” and daughter of comedian Larry David.

“I’ve always been an anxious person in the regular world. I guess it’s nice to finally be on the same page as everyone,” David responded.
