DUBAI: According to Variety, MBC Studios is set to launch an English-language documentary and series about Carlos Ghosn, the French-Lebanese-Brazilian former CEO of automakers Nissan and Renault, who fled to Beirut from Japan where he was awaiting trial.

“It’s not very often that one of the world’s top CEOs finds himself sent to jail and then, more importantly, managed to escape the way he did,” MBC CEO Marc Antoine d’Halluin told the publication.

British director Nick Green (“A Dangerous Dynasty: House of Assad”) was recruited to helm the three-part documentary, which started shooting in September in Beirut.

Meanwhile, the still untitled mini-series is set to boast six episodes and is expected to begin shooting in 2021. French-Swedish director Charlotte Brandstrom will spearhead the project alongside US screenwriter and producer Mark Goffman.

While details are still scarce, d’Halluin revealed that the cast will be announced in “the next two or three months” and that the show will be shot in Paris, Tokyo, Beirut, Rio de Janeiro and probably New York.

Ghosn, who was awaiting trial in Japan on financial misconduct charges, jumped bail and fled to Beirut via private jet in January. In a statement, the 66-year-old tycoon said he would “no longer be held hostage by a rigged Japanese justice system, where guilt is presumed, discrimination is rampant, and basic human rights are denied.”

MBC is set to air the Ghosn documentary and series across the Middle East and are handling international sales.
