DUBAI: Kuwait has sent its fifth relief plane to disaster-hit Sudan, which declared a three-month emergency after experiencing the worst flooding in 30 years.
More than 860,000 people so far have been displaced, with their houses destroyed or damaged by flood waters from the Nile river and its tributaries.
The Kuwait aircraft carrying 40 tons of aid - mainly food - landed at Khartoum International Airport on Monday, state news agency KUNA reported.
The Gulf nation has been a regular provider of relief support for Sudan, and the latest effort comes amid an alert from the UN warning that surging inflation – prices of some basic commodities had shot up by as much as 400 percent – and the flooding is threatening humanitarian aid.
