LONDON: Britain’s prime minister and foreign secretary discussed the Middle East peace process on Thursday with Donald Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner.
The meeting came after Kushner led a delegation of US and Israeli officials to the UAE that cemented an agreement to establish full relations.
Boris Johnson and Dominic Raab “welcomed the historic Israel-UAE normalization deal, and discussed wider US efforts to facilitate the normalization of ties between Israel and Arab states,” a foreign office spokesman said.
“The prime minister and foreign secretary were clear about their commitment to a negotiated two-state solution,” the spokesman added.
The agreement with the UAE came in exchange for Israel removing the threat of annexing Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank.
The deal makes the UAE only the third Arab country to have relations with Israel. Kushner has urged more Arab states to follow.
Raab told Kushner that there should be a return to cooperation between the Israeli and Palestinian leaderships, “as a first step on the road to a renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace process.”
