RIYADH: Arab coalition forces intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia in Yemen towards Najran in Saudi Arabia on Thursday .

Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki Al-Maliki said the missile launch was a systematic and deliberate attempt by the Houthis to target civilian objects and civilians.

Attacks across the Yemen-Saudi border by the Houthi militias have escalated since late May.

In June, their missiles reached the Saudi capital Riyadh.

The coalition has since retaliated with airstrikes.
