  • Health ministry says more than 266,000 people have recovered from the disease
  • Follows a sizeable drop in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday reported six deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, recording the lowest number of fatalities in weeks, while the nationwide toll count stood at 6,168, according to the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, 670 new infections were reported across the country on Sunday, bringing the total tally to 288,716 cases. At the same time, more than 266,301 people have recovered from the disease.
With more than 2.2 million tests conducted so far, Pakistan has seen a significant drop in infections in recent weeks, even as the government and health experts warned the public to adhere to anti-virus measures to limit the spread of the outbreak.
It follows authorities lifting the anti-virus lockdown on August 10, citing a significant decline in new infections and deaths with the recreational sector – including public parks, theaters and cinema halls – allowed to reopen for the public.
However, educational institutions and venues for marriage ceremonies will be allowed to operate from September 15, subject to a final review on September 7.
