RIYADH: King Salman arrived in the city of Neom where he will spend time recuperating following surgery, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.
He left King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh on July 30 following a successful laparoscopic operation to remove his gallbladder.
King Salman was admitted to hospital 10 days earlier to undergo medical tests due to cholecystitis.
Neom, where King Salman also spent a holiday last year, is near the northwestern city of Tabuk, close to the border with Egypt. The $500 billion megacity is being marketed as a global tourist destination and is a key part of the Kingdom’s strategic vision to diversify the economy.
The project aims to attract new business and develop future technologies, while also acting as a major economic power and leading center for global investment.
Neom has financial support from the Saudi Public Investment Fund. The initiative emerged from the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 reform plan that seeks to reduce the Kingdom’s dependence on oil, diversify its economy and develop public service sectors.
