TABOUK: Major Raed Al-Maliki, spokesman for the Special Forces for Environmental Security, confirmed on Friday that several individuals captured on video harming sea turtles have been identified.

The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows a group of men mistreating sea turtles off the coast of Umluj in Tabouk Governorate. Al-Maliki said that legal proceedings against the men have been initiated.

Sea turtles are a common sight around the islands off Umluj’s coast, where they dig out nests in the sand to lay their eggs during the night.

Al-Maliki added that it was a “national responsibility” to ensure the welfare of Saudi Arabia’s environment and wildlife.
