JEDDAH: Government offices and agencies in Saudi Arabia will now be required to display works of art made by Saudi artists by royal decree.
The move follows a Ministry of Culture proposal to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with a list of acquired art works, traditional locally made goods and crafts commemorative of the Kingdom. The art works in question are to be added to the National Register for Artistic Works, approved by the Council of Ministers last year.
Saudi Minster of Culture Prince Bader bin Farhan thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for supporting the art scene in the Kingdom, and directing government agencies to limit the acquisition of artworks to national works in their official headquarters.
The Cabinet had previously instructed the ministry to prepare a national record for artistic works, and to circulate it to all government agencies by providing data on the works they had.
Prince Farhan previously said that the register would become a guide and database for works of art of all kinds in the Kingdom.
