DUBAI: The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has released a set of guidelines for the reopening of private schools, state news agency WAM reported.

The new policies outline the school’s responsibilities in four areas – safe operations, teaching and learning, staff and student wellbeing, as well as community support.

The department has worked with schools, parents, teachers and other relevant stakeholders to craft the guidelines in time for school reopening in September.

Among the new rules are social distancing mechanisms, the use of protective equipment and the maintaining of high standards of hygiene in schools.

“We are committed to ensuring the safest possible return to classroom education for students and teachers and the guidelines, aligned with global best practice, take into account every aspect of school operation,” Amer Al Hammadi, ADEK Undersecretary, said.

ADEK, which governs 201 education entities, has urged schools to announce their reopening strategy by the end of July to give parents ample time to consider whether or not they proceed with enrolment.
