DUBAI: For his first official fashion show on the Paris Fashion Week schedule, KidSuper designer Colm Dillane let his imagination run wild, presenting a surreal stop-motion film – entitled “Everything’s Fake Until It’s Real” – that was only made possible thanks to the digital format of this year’s event.

On July 12, the designer sent out a lineup of “models” such as Kanye West, Freddie Mercury, Travis Scott and Elon Musk in the presence of a star-studded front-row that included Queen Elizabeth II, Anna Wintour and the Obamas among others.

He achieved this by featuring decapitated Barbie dolls, with their heads replaced by 3D-printed renditions of notable figures.  Each doll wore miniature looks from the streetwear-centric label’s newest collection, which included oversized jackets and trousers embroidered with appliqué noses and mouths.

The highly-entertaining runway show concluded with a performance from Franco-Algerian singer Lolo Zouai – well, a Barbie doll version of her – who closed out the presentation with a piano rendition of her single “Beaucoup.”

“So proud of KidSuper who finally *officially* made it to Paris Fashion Week this year haha!,” the Brooklyn-based artist captioned a clip of her performance on Instagram.

It’s not the first time that the singer, who was born to a French mother and an Algerian father in France, was enlisted to serenade show-goers during Fashion Week. Last year, the artist performed at the Saint Laurent after party, following the brand’s spring 2020 show in Paris.
