Husam Zaman has been the president of the Saudi Education Evaluation Commission since June 2019.
He has also been the president of Taif University since June 2016, and the director general of the Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education since October 2014.
Zaman gained a Ph.D. in administration and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006 and holds a certificate of completion in the AMA’s (American Management Association) comprehensive project management workshop.
Prior to taking on his current role, he worked at Taibah University as dean of quality from March 2008 to April 2013, and deputy vice president for development and quality from September 2012 to June 2013.
He then became the campus president of the Riyadh-based Saudi Electronic University from July 2013 to September 2014.
On Sunday, Zaman launched the Qubul acceptance index for high school performance in admission tests for higher education institutions.
According to the commission, the index includes a test of general abilities in both quantitative aptitude and verbal aspects, an achievement test for scientific disciplines in mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry courses, and another for theoretical disciplines in Islamic education, Arabic language, and social sciences.
During a virtual international symposium on Monday, Zaman gave a presentation on the Kingdom’s experience in conducting university acceptance tests and its use of technology and digital transformation apps to implement the tests electronically for home-study students (around 75 percent of students) and in computerized testing centers (25 percent of applicants.)
The conference had been organized by UNICEF, UNESCO, and the World Bank to discuss the framework for the reopening of schools and share the methodologies adopted by different countries.
