DUBAI: “Have been waiting since December to share this dream come true!!!” exclaimed part-Palestinian model Gigi Hadid, unveiling on Instagram this week the latest Chanel Pre-Fall 2020 campaign, in which she stars in.
Lensed by American photographer Melodie McDaniel, Hadid showcases designs by Karl Lagerfeld’s successor Virginie Ward, including the brand’s jumpsuits, bomber jackets and handbags, posing against a mirrored staircase.
The model features in the campaign alongside other megamodels including Mona Tougaard, Ola Rudnicka and Anna Ewers. Catwalkers Rebecca Leigh Longendyke, Pan Haowen, Vittoria Ceretti and Blesyna Minher also appear in the advert.
The advert was lensed last year, well before the 25-year-old revealed that she was expecting a baby with her partner, British-Pakistani singer Zayn Malik.
When it came to confirming the news officially in April, Hadid told show host Jimmy Fallon: “Obviously, you know, we wish we could’ve announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support so…”
The interview with Jimmy Fallon came after TMZ’s initial breaking report. Her mother Yolanda Hadid confirmed the news to a Dutch media outlet, RTL Boulevard: “I'm excited to become a Oma in September especially after I lost my mom so recently. But this is the beauty of life: One soul leaves us and a new one comes in. We feel very blessed.”
However, it’s likely that the mom-to-be was pregnant when she shot the campaign for Chanel in December. The supermodel recently revealed that she was already a “few months” into her first pregnancy when she walked the international catwalks two months later in February.
In a live streamed interview with beauty giant Maybelline, Hadid chatted to make-up artist Erin Parson about how rumors that she’d had facial fillers had been circulating online. In fact, she said, her plumper cheeks were down to her pregnancy glow, more noticeable during fashion month when she was “a few months preggo,” the supermodel revealed.
January saw the model feature in a string of campaigns, in addition to walking for Chanel, Jacquemus, Lanvin and Jean Paul Gaultier during Paris Fashion Week.
