Mediaquest — the organizer of the MENA Effie Awards (Effies) — has announced that the annual marketing and communications event will not take place in November this year as previously planned. The next edition of the Effies will run in 2021, and the rules and eligibility for the next edition will be announced at a later stage.
“Mediaquest took this difficult decision after careful consideration and extensive consultations with partners and stakeholders. As the impact from COVID-19 continues to be felt, this decision reflects the unprecedented societal, health and economic challenges currently facing the world, as well as Mediaquest’s desire to remove any uncertainty about the running of the awards,” a statement said.
Alexandre Hawari, CEO of Mediaquest, added: “We look ahead to better times and firmly believe that the MENA Effies will continue to bring the regional advertising community together by celebrating and honoring its work in 2021.”
The MENA Effie Awards aim to establish a gold standard for creative marketing brilliance in the region. Winning an Effie has become a global achievement symbol, and each year, participants battle it out for the Grand Prix, as well other accolades including “Marketer of the Year,” “Most Effective Advertising Agency Office of the Year,” “Most Effective Media Agency Office of the Year” and “Most Effective Agency Network of the Year.”
Last year’s event, the 11th edition of the MENA Effie Awards, saw a 25 percent increase in the number of entries, with 275 shortlisted entries across 35 categories that were judged by 130 judges.
