DUBAI: The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has criticized plans of Israel to annex parts of the West Bank, saying it would violate international law, state-run SPA reported.
Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf was attending a ministerial meeting on Thursday, where a Council of the Arab League resolution was issued to reject Israel’s actions.
He said Israeli annexation “is a grave breach of the Charter and the resolutions of the United Nations and the principles of international law that prohibits the disposal or annexation of occupied territories.”
The resolution also condemned Israel’s “policies and practices” against Palestinian people, including a recent aggression at the Hebron city and the blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Al-Hajraf said he supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and the efforts of the international community to resolve the decades-long conflict.
