- In a letter to OIC secretary general, Qureshi claims Indian administration working on extremist Hindutva ideology
- Says the administration in New Delhi is demonizing Muslims by accusing them of spreading coronavirus
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi addressed a letter to the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to discuss the “rising wave of state-sanctioned hate crimes and Islamophobia in India,” said the country’s foreign office in an official statement on Tuesday.
The letter, which was also sent to the foreign ministers of OIC member states, highlighted, among other things, “the RSS-BJP dispensation’s anti-Muslim and anti-minority agenda, based on the extremist ‘Hindutva’ ideology,” added the official statement.
Qureshi maintained that India’s Bharatiya Janata Party was running a systematic campaign to demonize Muslims by holding them responsible for the spread of coronavirus. He noted that Indian actions were in contravention of relevant international conventions and undermined global efforts for religious harmony.
“It is hoped that the international community will take due cognizance and urge India to reverse this course, which is fraught with risks for the safety and security of India’s minorities, particularly Muslims, and for their fundamental rights and freedoms,” added the foreign office statement.
