Saudi Arabia wins role in key UN committees

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia won membership of two key UN bodies in elections that were held remotely at the UN headquarters in New York, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

The Kingdom gained a seat on the Science and Technology Development Committee for the period from 2021-2024 and in the Commission for Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice for the period from 2021-2023.

Saudi Arabia’s victory in the elections reflects its high status as well as the international confidence it enjoys as a result of its successes at the global level in various fields. It is also an acknowledgment of Kingdom’s steady march toward achieving its Vision 2030 under the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the UN, expressed his happiness over the development, saying that the efforts undertaken by the Kingdom in various fields emphasize its distinguished relations with the global community.
