DUBAI: The Mohammed bin Rashid Humanitarian and Charity Establishment (MBRCH) said it will donate nearly $5.5 million (AED 20 million) to the country’s massive food distribution drive amid the coronavirus crisis, state news agency WAM has reported.

The MBRCH will also be one of the lead organizations to execute the “10 million meals” campaign, which was announced on Sunday by Dubai Ruler and UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support low-income families and individuals affected by the pandemic.

“The campaign presents a humanitarian opportunity for people across all segments of the society to support the vulnerable in such exceptional circumstances through food, one of the basic necessities to safeguard lives,” Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha from the MBRCH said.

Meanwhile, government teams and volunteers across the UAE have distributed 500,000 free meals to heavily affected communities in the country, including dense districts in Dubai such as Al-Ras, Naif, Al-Raffa, Al-Karama, Al-Mankhool, Al-Satwa and Oud Metha.

The “Your City Needs You” campaign has attracted 12,230 volunteers from 40 nationalities between the ages of 18 and 53.
