How to protect against coronavirus and reduce spreading it

  • Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health has issued guidelines on dealing with the coronavirus

RIYADH: As Saudi Arabia enters a period of night time curfew to tackle the coronavirus outbreak. Here is a reminder of some of the key advice from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health to help slow the spread of the disease.

Wash your hands

*The universal and most widespread advice. People should wash their hands often with soap and water.

*The health ministry said key times when they should be washed are before, after and during preparation of food, before eating, after coughing and sneezing, and before and after taking care of an infected person.

*Hands should be washed with soap for 40 seconds or with alcohol-based hand sanitisers for 20 seconds.

Sneezing etiquette

*Use tissues when sneezing or cover your mouth and nose with your elbow.

*Dispose of your used tissue in a rubbish bin

*Wash your hands after sneezing

Masks

Face masks should not be worn unless you are suffering from respiratory symptoms such as sneezing and coughing OR if you are in direct contact with someone who has respiratory symptoms.

If you have Covid-19 symptoms

*Wear a mask

*Call 937

*Follow directions from the advisor to the nearest hospital 

 

 

Home quarantine procedures

*Follow above guidelines with regards to sneezing and coughing and washing your hands.

*Stay home in a room and stay away from others as much as possible.

*Get help from those around you to take care of you.

*Avoid traveling and public places.

*Avoid receiving visitors at home

*When communicating with others wear a mask outside the house and when talking to others

*Follow these procedures for 14 days to reduce the spread of the infection
