RIYADH: The Saudi Arabian Scouts Association organized a training trip for scout leaders in Florida, US, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.
During this trip, participants observed a US food bank in Orlando. Food banks collect and distribute food and clothing to poor and low-income people.
The scout leaders were able to explore the mechanism of gathering, sorting, inspecting and distributing items to community partners and nonprofit institutions.
They also discovered how to receive food, clothes and luxury items from farmers, manufacturers, banks, distributors, and retailers with a food surplus.
The head of the trip, Dr. Saleh bin Rajaa Al-Harb, stressed the importance of the visit in order to learn more about the workings of charitable operations and forge partnerships with authorities and other bodies.
He emphasized the importance of raising society’s awareness about preserving food and other needed items for the needy, as well as the importance of enhancing humanitarian work.
Officially founded in 1961, the Saudi Arabian Scouts Association’s message since its initiation has been to strengthen its relations with educational institutions and charitable entities, while working closely with Arab, Islamic and international scouts bodies.
