DUBAI: A jewelry brand offering fashionable pieces that are eco-friendly and affordable is likely to top anybody’s list of favorite labels.
But when the brand gets the thumbs-up from Hollywood royalty, it adds another layer of appeal to what is already a glittering package.
Dubai-based entrepreneur Reine Saba is the designer behind the jewelry line High Street Jewelry (HSJ), which caught international superstar Mariah Carey’s eye during the singer’s recent performance in the UAE.
“We use silver in our contemporary jewelry because it is non-degradable and does not cause any allergy when it is plated with gold,” Saba told Arab News. “This makes our jewelry sustainable, and it does not harm the environment or the person.”
Saba, who is originally Lebanese, launched her website in 2016, offering a wide collection of jewelry from designers around the world. But eventually her long-time passion for jewelry triggered the birth of her own label.
“What inspired me was traveling. I love traveling, and whenever I travel, I look for expertise in another country, either in jewelry or in chocolate,” she said.
Last year, the designer launched HSJ and added the label to her website.
Saba uses zirconium, a metal that is biocompatible and nontoxic, allowing her to produce pieces that look like real diamonds. “You can have the look of diamonds in a contemporary way, but at affordable prices,” she said.
Her jewelry ranges in price from $27 to $820. “Every woman, no matter what the occasion, can find something at High Street Jewelry,” she said.
Beside international celebrities, Saba hopes to see her designs worn by regional artists such as Emirati singer Ahlam, and the Lebanese stars Elissa and Nancy Ajram.
“I also love Beyonce and Katy Perry, so I would love to see my designs on them as well,” she added.
