CAIRO: Egypt hosted a string of Western A-list celebrities throughout 2019, from American singer and songwriter Katy Perry to former Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima.
Perry visited with her partner, British actor Orlando Bloom. She celebrated her 35th birthday among ancient Egyptian monuments and posted photos on Instagram of her posing in front of the pyramids.
Lima described her visit to the pyramids as “connecting with the universe in a meditational phase in favor of global peace.” The supermodel shared a photo of her standing among them.
Despite their status, these A-listers followed Egypt’s more conservative unofficial dress code out of respect for the country and its traditions. Musicians and models were not alone in their love for Egypt, as several footballers also visited the country this year.
The most prominent of them were Sergio Ramos, who plays for Real Madrid, and Daniel Alves, who plays for Sao Paulo FC.
Ramos spent five days during the summer at a Red Sea resort with his family. He bid farewell to Egypt in a social media post in which he praised the country and its people.
Alves traveled to Egypt with his wife, Spanish model Joana Sanz. The tourist sites they visited included the pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.
Alves posted a series of Instagram photos of him and his wife in various historic locations, which he captioned: “We love Egypt.”
Several Western musicians hosted large-scale concerts in Egypt this year, including American rapper Russ.
After the concert, he dedicated an Instagram post to the crowd that attended.
British singer and songwriter James Arthur performed in April in a concert hosted by the American University in Cairo.
Having A-listers with huge social media followings visit Egypt is a boost for the country’s tourism sector.
