DUBAI: Lebanese director and actress Nadine Labaki was honored by the Beirut Institute Summit in Abu Dhabi on Sunday for excellence in her field.
The UAE’s Minister of State Zaki Nusseibeh, Lebanese composer and producer Khaled Mouzannar, Sudanese-American spoken word poet Emi Mahmoud and Emirati inventor Fatima Al-Kaabi, who were also honored at the event.
After the release of Labaki’s latest Oscar-nominated movie, “Capernaum,” the director and her husband Mouzannar started the Capernaum Foundation, which supports the cast of children on the film – who are non-actors.
Last week, Labaki gave a speech at the 2019 Nansen Refugee Award ceremony at the Batiment des Forces Motrices in Switzerland, at which she discussed the dilemma of stateless people.
