Dr. Marei bin Hussein Al-Qahtani

Dr. Marei bin Hussein Al-Qahtani has been president of Jazan University since June 2016. He holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh.

Al-Qahtani began his career in academia in 1981 as a lecturer in KSU’s geography department.

In 1994, he moved to the UK to pursue his doctorate, which he completed in 1998. He received his Ph.D. in physical geography and environmental sciences from the University of Hull.

After that, Al-Qahtani returned to KSU as an assistant professor in the geography department. He was also an assistant professor in the social sciences department of King Khalid University in Abha between 1999 and 2003. He was an associate professor in the same department from 2003 to 2009.

Al-Qahtani served in several other positions at King Khalid University, including dean of admissions and registration. He was vice president then acting president of the university from 2011 to 2016.

On Wednesday, Jazan’s acting Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz met Al-Qahtani at his office.

Prince Mohammed was briefed on Jazan University’s services and achievements, as well as its upcoming plans and programs.

He praised the university’s efforts to serve and develop the capabilities of students from Jazan and other Saudi regions in accordance with the Vision 2030 reform plan.
