JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman discussed regional developments with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, who arrived in Jeddah earlier on Wednesday.

They discussed regional developments, including the recent attacks on Saudi Aramco’s oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais, the Saudi state news agency SPA reported.

Abdul Mahdi affirmed Iraq’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia, and its keenness on the Kingdom’s security and stability.

During the talks, the two sides stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, and continuing consultation and coordination in all that serves their common security and interests.

The meeting was attended by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed, Interior Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Saud bin Naif, Minister of State Prince Mansour bin Miteb bin Abdul Aziz, and other senior officials from both sides.

Abdul Mahdi met later on with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Earlier, Prince Khaled and other senior officials received Abdul Mahdi and his delegation at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Saudi Arabia and Iraq have strengthened their relations in recent years, with a number of senior Iraqi officials visiting the Kingdom.

A Saudi economic delegation traveled to Iraq in April. During the visit, a new Saudi consulate was opened in Baghdad. A few weeks later, Abdul Mahdi visited Riyadh and met with King Salman.
