Mobily topped all ICT companies in the Kingdom in terms of download speeds during Hajj 2019, according to a Speed Checker report. The telecom operator was able to double the average download speed it provided during last year’s Hajj in the holy places.
The report analyzed cellular data collected from over 50,000 speed tests taken between Aug. 8 and 15th, to show an increase in download speeds by over 70 percent compared to last year.
The Speed Checker website pointed out that Mobily’s partnership with Ericsson significantly contributed to this achievement.
“These results underscore the company’s commitment to providing high-quality and secured Internet in accordance with the aim of the government, which is to enable pilgrims and worshippers to perform their rituals smoothly,” said Alaa Malki, chief technology officer at Mobily.
Malki said the company’s research at the end of the Hajj season every year has contributed to equipping their local staff with all the necessary experience and knowledge.
For Hajj 2019, Mobily added more than 1,070 towers, covering the metro network, and 68 maintenance centers manned by 950 staff members.
Mobily also launched its 5G network during Hajj this year at the holy sites in Makkah, Madinah, Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina — where the Internet speed exceeded 1 Gbps.
