KATOWICE: The Kingdom’s Ministry of Culture took part in the sixth “Big Stuff” conference held in the Polish city of Katowice, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Poland-based event, “Preserving Large Industrial Objects in a Changing Environment,” discussed the future of industrial heritage in the face of a rapidly changing environment, the role of social relations, architectural designs, infrastructure and climate change and its impact on the preservation of old buildings and machinery.
The Saudi delegation gave a presentation on the ministry’s interest in developing industrial heritage, its experience in identifying sites and stimulating community participation through a competition to document industrial heritage and discovering the most important sites throughout the Kingdom. This project was part of an industrial heritage program launched by the minister of culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan.
This year’s conference is organized by the Foundation for the Protection of Silesian Industrial Heritage, sponsored by Poland’s Ministry of Culture and Heritage and supervised by the International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage.
