RIYADH: A Saudi soldier has been killed near the Kingdom’s southern border with Yemen.
Sgt. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Zahrani died “defending his homeland,” the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Funeral prayers were held in the sergeant’s hometown of Qilwah in Al-Baha region on Sunday.
Following the prayers, the governor of Qilwah, Abdullah bin Hamdan Al-Oweidi, conveyed the condolences of King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Prince Dr. Hussam Bin Saud, governor of Al-Baha region, to the dead soldier’s family.
His family expressed pride in his honor in serving the Kingdom and that he helped in preserve its security and stability, the report said.
Saudi Arabia, as part of a wider Arab coalition, intervened in the Yemen conflict in 2015 to support forces loyal to the internationally recognized government after it was driven from the capital Sanaa by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
