TikTok, the world’s leading short-form video platform, has recently launched two new initiatives to spread positive impact in Saudi Arabia and across the MENA region.
The first initiative, #TikTokCares, was announced recently and saw the participation of top content creators from Saudi Arabia and across MENA to educate people about the precautions they need to take during the searing Arabian summer.
The second campaign, launching this Thursday, and running during Eid Al-Adha, is the #CreateForGood challenge. Spearheaded by regional celebrities and influencers, the campaign will raise awareness about those who suffer from hearing or speech impairment.
“TikTok is more than a mere content creation platform; we’re fortunate to have a vast community of passionate, creatively spirited and highly active users so it is our responsibility to not only create a wholesome online experience for all our users but to bring positivity to our wider communities. Through campaigns like #CreateForGood and #TikTokCares we encourage our creators to contribute to important causes and promote shared values of inclusivity, tolerance and safety. Together, we can improve the world we live in,” said Kawther Al-Khalili, head of content and partnerships, TikTok MENA.
Several avoidable tragedies are reported every summer and TikTok’s recently concluded #TikTokCares campaign took the challenge head-on to increase awareness about the precautionary measures people need to take to stay safe during summer.
#TikTokCares called on its top creators to craft videos on summer tips, reminding TikTok users to exercise caution during the hot summer months. As many as 30 creators, with a follower base in excess of 15 million, joined the challenge, making over 35 videos on different topics, including travel tips, home safety and saving the environment. Among the Saudi content creators who took part in the challenge were @haifa.fitlife, @ahmadhail, @Missouriya47 and @doujana. The total number of views for these videos exceeded 28.3 million, underscoring the positive impact of the initiative.
In Saudi Arabia alone, a significant number of individuals suffer from hearing or speech impairment. To play a part in helping improve interactions between them and the rest of the community, TikTok has issued a call to action to its users to encourage content using sign language alongside “Create For Good” stickers in solidarity with these sections of society.
