Husein Alireza wins rowing championship in UK

Husein Alireza with coach Bill Barry lift the winner’s cup at the Molesey Boat Club races.

Saudi Rowing Federation star rower Husein Alireza reached another milestone in his career by winning a championship at this year’s Molesey Boat Club races in the UK, which concluded in the third week of July.

The Saudi Rowing Federation was well represented in the contest with the participation of three rowers from Saudi Arabia, including Khalid Hadrawi, president of the Saudi team, Sultan Alshali and Alireza.

Molesey Boat Club was established in 1866 on the River Thames near London and the first race was run the following year.

The event is usually attended by rowers from around the UK and Europe and is used as one of the preparation races for the world championships in September. Alireza competed in the top Tier 1 level with a distance of 1 kilometer including navigating bends on the Thames. The championship is decided after three rounds of racing.

The Saudi Rowing Federation team members took time this summer to train in the UK under the direction of British coach and Olympic silver medalist Bill Barry. Participation in the Molesey Boat Races has helped the whole team greatly raise their level of experience.
