RIYADH: Arab coalition forces intercepted and shot down a Houthi drone targeting civilian areas in Saudi Arabia's Asir region, the coalition spokesman Col. Turki Al-Maliki said on Tuesday.

Al-Maliki stressed that the failed attempts of the Houthis to target civilians is a violation of international humanitarian law.

The attempted attack comes a week after Saudi air defense forces intercepted a weaponized drone launched by Houthi terrorists toward Jazan.

Al-Maliki condemned that attempted attack, saying it coincided with UN envoy Martin Griffiths’ visit to Sanaa.

The Houthis are persistent in attempting to target civilian infrastructure, “proving their criminality and extremist ideology against the Yemeni people and neighboring countries,” he said.
