An industry first — GMC Sierra with MultiPro tailgate

Tailgates are fast becoming the stand-out features on luxury pickup trucks, and the 2019 GMC Sierra is no different.

Truck owners use their vehicles for a variety of tasks, yet the pickup’s tailgate had not evolved accordingly. This changes with the MultiPro tailgate — the segment’s “most innovative” tailgate ever, which will come as standard on both the AT4 and Denali model variants and optional on the SLT. Whether camping, off-roading or transporting, the new Sierra claims to be the perfect companion and its tailgate adds functionality in spades.

The MultiPro is designed to be a strong, durable and useful tool. The project spent two years in research and development to be ready for its role as a key feature in the Sierra. GMC engineers also focused on designing the tailgate according to pickup owner input to maximize its functionality and convenience.

The MultiPro tailgate features seven functions and positions, offering enhanced second-tier loading and load-stop solutions, a standing workstation mode and easier access to items in the box.

Whether one is working on a project, preparing for a camping trip or barbecuing on a desert adventure, a pickup’s tailgate can often serve as a useful work surface. By lowering the inner gate alone, MultiPro provides a work surface at a comfortable height, much like a traditional workbench. Sierra’s available in-bed 230-volt electrical outlet makes this an even more versatile place to work.
