The airport is located in the Asir province, southwest of Saudi Arabia.

It offers domestic flights and a number of international destinations, such as Yemen, Egypt, UAE and others.

The airport was launched in 1977, after two years of construction done by Laing Wimpey Alireza.

It was designed by Dutch Consultants NACO.
