ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi arrived in Jeddah on Tuesday to attend the meeting of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Makkah.
Qureshi was received at King Abdulaziz International Airport Saudi officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Raja Ali Ejaz.
Foreign ministers of the Muslim member states will meet to finalize the agenda for the leaders’ session ahead of the 14th OIC summit in Makkah on May 31.
“The 14th #OICMakkahSummit will be preceded by the Senior Officials’ Meeting & the Council of Foreign Ministers of the #OIC Member States. The ministers will present the draft final statement to the 14th Islamic Summit to be held on 31 May 2019 in Makkah Al-Mukarrama for approval,” the OIC tweeted on May 26.
Before leaving for Saudi Arabia, Qureshi told reporters the OIC summit was of immense significance as Pakistan would “discuss the prevailing situation of the Middle East.”
“We will present our point of view regarding the challenges faced by Muslim Ummah,” Quershi said.
The Makkah summit, hosted by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, is aimed at developing a unified stance on events in the Islamic world, he added.
According to the OIC, Makkah Summit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the organization — officially established on September 25, 1969, under the name Organization of Islamic Conference.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will attend the 14th OIC Summit in Makkah on May 31.
